Crest & Feather

High above the clouds, the floating island of Icarus is the only map where monsters drop the two materials of the second wings. Every one of its 162 monsters can drop a Loch's Feather or a Monarch's Crest; only its boss can't. Bring either one with a Jewel of Chaos and a first wing to the Chaos Machine: the Feather makes a pair of 2nd level wings, the Crest a cape.

One item, two levels

Both are the same item: Loch's Feather is its +0 and Monarch's Crest its +1. The game calls the second one Monarch's Crest; many players say Crest of Monarch.

Which one you need

Loch's Feather: the 2nd level wings, for every class.
Monarch's Crest: the capes, Cape of the Lord for the Dark Lord and Warrior's Cloak for the Rage Fighter.

No wings, no flight

Move (M): Icarus, 40,000 Zen
Level: 170 (160 by the gate)
Equipment: Wings, Dinorant or Fenrir
Monsters: 162 and a boss

1Reach level 170, or level 160 to walk in through the gate.
2Put on wings or a cape, or ride a Dinorant or a Fenrir. The Dark Horse, Uniria and the Mount Hunt mounts don't count.
3Open Move (M) and pick Icarus for 40,000 Zen, or walk through the gate in Lost Tower at 17 to 19, 250.
4You land at the island's edge (14 to 16, 13). Every monster from there on can drop the Feather and the Crest.

Without wings

The move is refused with You do not have the right equipment to move. The same rule guards Kanturu 3.

How many kills a Feather or a Crest takes

Every kill of an Icarus monster of level 25 to 100 rolls twice: 0.01% for a Loch's Feather and 0.01% for a Monarch's Crest, about 1 in 10,000 each. The chance is the same for every account.

During Happy Hour (14:00 and 19:00 server time, one hour each) both chances rise by 10%, to 0.011%.

These two drops only come from the monsters of Icarus. No other map's monsters drop them.

The success rate

The rate comes from the value of what you put in, up to 90%:

first wing value ÷ 4,000,000 + excellent items' value ÷ 40,000

The value is the item's Zen value, which grows fast with its level, Luck, additional option and excellent options. Each Talisman of Luck adds 1%.

Reaching 90%

A +0 first wing alone: about 3%.
Add excellent items of +4 or higher: they raise the rate the most.
A +7 first wing with one excellent +7 item with Luck and an option: the 90% cap.
Almost every wing mix on the server runs at 90%.

Talisman Mixes

A talisman fixes the result

A wing talisman turns the random mix into a sure pick: the Feather or the Crest, a first wing, a Jewel of Chaos and the talisman give exactly the wing on it, for 1,000,000 Zen and with no Luck needed. The talismans drop from the wild mounts of the Mount Hunt Invasion.

The wild mounts carry them too

Among normal monsters only Icarus drops them, but some of the wild mounts of the Mount Hunt Invasion carry one in their bonus loot: 10% a kill for the bonus item, one of four, so 2.5% for the Feather or the Crest.

FAQ

Where does Loch's Feather drop on ThunderMU?

Only in Icarus. Every Icarus monster of level 25 to 100 can drop it, 0.01% a kill (about 1 in 10,000): Alquamos, Mega Crust, Queen Rainier, Drakan, Alpha Crust, Phantom Knight and Great Drakan. The boss Phoenix of Darkness doesn't drop it.

Where does Monarch's Crest (Crest of Monarch) drop?

In Icarus, from the same monsters as Loch's Feather and at the same 0.01% a kill. Each kill rolls for the Feather and the Crest separately. During Happy Hour both chances rise by 10%.

How do I get to Icarus?

Wear wings or a cape, or ride a Dinorant or a Fenrir, then pick Icarus in Move (M) at level 170 for 40,000 Zen, or walk through the gate in Lost Tower from level 160. The Dark Horse, Uniria and the Mount Hunt mounts don't let you in.

How do I make 2nd level wings or a cape?

In the Chaos Machine: a Jewel of Chaos, a first wing (Wings of Elf, Heaven, Satan or Wing of Curse) and a Loch's Feather for a random 2nd level wing, or a Monarch's Crest for Cape of the Lord or Warrior's Cloak, plus 5,000,000 Zen. Excellent items of +4 and higher raise the rate up to 90%. A wing talisman fixes the result for 1,000,000 Zen.

Can I get Loch's Feather or Monarch's Crest anywhere else?

Some wild mounts of the Mount Hunt Invasion carry one in their bonus loot, 2.5% a kill. No NPC sells them and they are not in the shop.
